The decision on solid oak furniture has already been made, but when choosing the color there is a dilemma: natural or bleached oak, or maybe a bolder combination with black? This is a choice that will stay with you for years, so it is worth taking a closer look at how each shade behaves in the interior. Below we compare the three most popular finishes and advise how to choose them to match the floor, walls and style of the apartment.

Natural oak – warm and timeless

Natural oak it has a warm, honey shade and clear grain pattern. This is the finish that most resembles "pure wood".

It will work when:

  • you want to create cozy, warm interior,
  • you furnish your apartment in style Scandinavian, Japanese or classic,
  • the walls are white, cream, beige or shades of green,
  • the room is cool or facing north and needs insulation.

Remember that natural oak darkens slightly over time under the influence of light and acquires a deeper color. Many people consider this to be its greatest charm.

Bleached oak – light and light

Bleached oak it is brighter and cooler, with slightly whitened grain patterns. It gives the effect of peace and lightness.

It will work when:

  • you arrange small or dark room and you want to optically enlarge them,
  • you like minimalism and Scandinavian-style interiors,
  • the walls are white, gray, sand or pastel,
  • you have a light floor and you want to avoid too strong a contrast.

Bleached oak works well in bedrooms because it gives the impression of freshness and order. It also suits bright children's rooms.

Natural oak with black – a modern contrast

Connection natural oak with black is a choice for people who like expressive interiors. Black elements emphasize the lines of the furniture, and warm oak softens their severity.

It will work when:

  • you decorate the interior in style modern, industrial or loft,
  • there are already black accessories in the apartment, such as lamps, picture frames, handles and fittings,
  • you want the furniture to be with a distinct accent, not the background,
  • the room is large and bright, so dark elements will not overwhelm it.

How to choose the color of oak for the floor?

This is the most common question. A few simple rules:

  1. Do not choose furniture in the same shade as the floor. Two almost the same but not identical shades of wood look like a mistake. It's better to bet on a clear difference.
  2. Bright floor (bleached oak, light panels, white tile) goes well with furniture in natural oak, which will add warmth, or with oak with black, which will provide contrast.
  3. Medium dark floor (honey oak, walnut) looks good with bleached oak or white oak furniture.
  4. Dark floor (wenge, dark walnut) beautifully highlights light furniture. Choose bleached or white oak.
  5. Gray floor or concrete it is a good background for both natural oak, which gives warmth, and bleached oak, which looks calm.

Can you combine different oak colors?

Yes, but in moderation. The safest thing to do is to adopt a rule one dominant shade per room. It is worth choosing large furniture, such as a bed, wardrobe or chest of drawers, in one color, and the other shade should be used in smaller elements, for example a bedside table, a trunk or a mirror frame.

The combination of oak and white also works well. Versions white with oak they combine a light body with oak accents, so they match both white walls and wooden floors.

Throughout the entire apartment, you can differentiate the colors between the rooms: natural oak in the living room, bleached oak in the bedroom, and oak with black in the study.

Which color of oak for which room?

  • Bedroom: bleached or natural oak, i.e. calm, calming shades.
  • Living room: natural oak, which warms up the space, or oak with black, if you like modern style.
  • Child's room: bleached oak or white oak, which are bright and cheerful.
  • Office: natural oak with black, which looks elegant and "office" in a good sense.
  • Dining room: natural oak that goes well with the wooden table.
